Budget 2009

Braving the recession by preserving jobs and building for the future

Budget 2009 Minister for Finance, Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, delivered his Budget Statement in Parliament on Thursday, 22 January 2009.

Billed as the Resilience Package, the spirit of Budget 2009 centres around the safeguarding of jobs for Singaporeans. It seeks to achieve this by:

  • Strengthening the cash-flow position of businesses while enhancing their competitive edge through a slate of tax measures and grants
  • Alleviating the liquidity crunch faced by companies through the sharing of credit risk between banks and the Singapore government
  • Protecting jobs for Singaporeans and supporting their families

From the viewpoint of a business or an individual, what does the Budget really mean? What are the key considerations arising from the budget announcement? Are there opportunities for you ?
